An Australian man allegedly stabbed at his restaurant in Thailand by a disgruntled former worker’s husband had a tragic connection to the 2004 tsunami that devastated giant elements of south-east Asia. 

Peter Heppell was celebrating his 57th birthday at Melina’s Monkey Home and Whale Bar in Krabi, east of Phuket, on Tuesday when the alleged assault occurred.  

The Perth dad owned the bar and named it in honour of his six-month-old daughter Melina, who was swept from his arms through the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. 

It is believed the husband of a former worker confronted Mr Heppell over a pay dispute and allegedly attacked him with a knife, in response to 9News.

His sister Karen mentioned the household had been ‘devastated’ to share the information that his life had been ‘taken abruptly and violently’.

‘Peter shall be remembered as a bigger than life character, who walked to the beat of his personal drum and lived life to the fullest,’ she wrote.

‘He survived motor bike accidents and miraculously the Boxing Day tsunami. Peter beloved his daughter Aly, the ocean, beer, footy and Thailand.

‘The household is so grateful that we had been in a position to spend time with him lately. Now reunited with child Melina. Our hearts are breaking.’

Mr Heppell’s buddy Jeff Rowe mentioned: ‘Misplaced a mate and a brother at the moment. What is that this world coming to.’

North Seaside Soccer Membership – with whom he received a premiership in 1990 – shared a tribute to the person they mentioned was a ‘character on and off the sector’.

Neighbour’s of the Melina’s Monkey Home and Whale Bar paid tribute to Heppell by sharing a ‘quiet beer’ on Wednesday in remembrance of their buddy. 

‘For the various of you who knew Peter from Huge Monkey subsequent door to us we shall be having a quiet beer in remembrance tonight at Jelly Nuts 2,’ the put up learn.
