Steven Soderbergh will make his theatrical producing debut with The Fears, a brand new work premiering Off-Broadway this spring.
The play, written by Emma Sheansang (Each Woman Will get Her Man, Greetings from Tim Buckley) and directed by Dan Algrant (Intercourse and the Metropolis, Individuals I Know), will run on the Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Sq. Signature Heart in New York beginning on April 25. Opening evening is scheduled for Could 18.
Soderbergh most lately directed Magic Mike’s Final Dance, after breaking out with movies similar to Site visitors, Erin Brockovich and the Ocean’s sequence. Along with his movie work, Soderbergh has labored as a theatrical director, creating and directing the play Tot Mother on the Sydney Theatre Firm in December 2009 and directing the world premiere of Scott Z. Burns’ play The Library at New York’s Public Theater in April 2014. He stated he was drawn to this piece due to the writing.
“I’d by no means entertained the thought of manufacturing a play till I learn Emma Sheanshang’s The Fears,” he stated. “Her distinctive voice and particular mix of character, emotion, and story left me feeling ‘PEOPLE SHOULD REALLY SEE THIS,’ and so the journey begins now.”
The Fears follows a bunch of “fractured souls” who meet weekly at a Buddhist middle in New York Metropolis with a view to search solace and steering. A brand new member attends the group and doesn’t know the principles, which creates “heated confrontations and deep meditations on how discovering peace in a metropolis of thousands and thousands could be insanely hilarious,” in response to the manufacturing.
Stage and movie producer John N. Hart, Jr. is serving as government producer for the play. Casting will likely be introduced at a later date.
